Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary
State : Gujarat
Location : 80 Kms From Ahmedabad.

Nalsarovar is a seasonal lake spread over an area of 115 square kilometers. It is known to harbour more than 250 species of birds. It is a destination to migratory birds coming all the way from Siberia and Russia. Just after the monsoon recedes, the migratory birds start flocking here. Kingfishers, egrets, darters, storks and cormorants spear with their dagger shaped beaks, are a few prominent varieties. The other commonly sighted birds are the jacanas, coots, grebes and ducks feeding mainly on plants. Birds that strain water from their specially designed beaks, keeping the food in, are a remarkable sight. Nalsarovar observes winter migrants from the north that includes Rosy Pelicans, White Storks, Flamingoes, Brahminy Ducks and Herons.

Thol Wildlife Sanctuary
State : Gujarat
Location : 40 Kms From Ahmedabad.

The Thol Wildlife Sanctuary has been operational since 1912 near Mehsana spreading over a petite plot only measuring 6.99 square kilometers is every bird-watcher’s dream come true.

Thol is well known for wintering Great White Pelicans, Flamingos, a variety of waterfowl including Mallards and good numbers of Greylag Geese, Sarus Cranes, the odd Spotted Flycatcher and waders which include Eurasian Curlews.

Gir Forest National Park

The Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary (also known as Sasan-Gir ) is a forest and wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat, India. Established in 1965, with a total area of 1412 square kilometers.

The count of 2,375 distinct fauna species of Gir includes about 38 species of mammals, around 300 species of birds, 37 species of reptiles and more than 2,000 species of insects.

Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary
State : Gujarat
Location : 45 Kms From Palanpur (Banaskantha).

Located in the lap of Aravalli hills in North Gujarat, bordering Rajasthan, Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary has many rare species of flora and fauna. The forests generally belong to the forest types of southern dry mixed deciduous and desert thorn forests. It is a home to the endangered sloth bear. The sanctuary derives its name from the picturesque Jessore hills of Aravalli ranges cutting across the sanctuary. The area was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in May 1978. The area has a great ecological significance as it acts as a buffer between the desert eco-system and the dry deciduous type of forest ecosystem.

Porbandar Bird Sanctuary
State : Gujarat
Location : in the heart of the Porbandar city.

The sanctuary falls on the migratory route of the birds. The area supports good population of flamingoes and other resident and migratory waterfowls. In fact, during more favourable years, even flamingoes have been reported to prefer this area for nesting.
Porbandar Bird Sanctuary is spread over an area of about 1 square kilometers. Porbandar Bird Sanctuary of Gujarat is the only bird sanctuary of the state that provides all the legal protection to varied species of birds of those who nests here.

The most important and notable bird species found in the Porbandar Bird Sanctuary include the Flamingo, Pelican, Spoonbill, Avocet, Coot, Bittern, Stork, Heron, Egret, Ibis, Gull, Tern, Jacanas, Ruff, Pintail, Little Cormorant, Little Grebe, Indian Roller, Shoveller, Ducks, Geese, Whistling Teal, Red Shank, etc.
